The next UFC event is fast approaching and will showcase a lot of talent. Some of that talent to check out is in the prelims between two fighters looking to improve in the welterweight division in Alex “The Great White” Morono and Rhys “Skeletor” McKee.
Date: Sat, Nov. 14, 3:00 PM
Venue: UFC Apex
Watch on: ESPN+
Alex Morono (17-6-0)
Morono is coming off of a first-round knockout loss to Kalinn Williams back in February. That loss snapped the three-fight winning streak Morono was building since late 2018.
His fighting resume shows that he has five wins by knockout, six by submission, five by decision, and one by opponent disqualification for an illegal bite. Out of those bouts, he also has 10 first-round finishes with a combination of knockouts and submissions.
“The Great White” has a striking accuracy at 39 percent and nothing for grappling accuracy. He lands 4.42 significant strikes a minute while absorbing 3.10. While that is a quality ratio, Morono has some room to be more aggressive without sacrificing defensive abilities.
Morono has a takedown defense at 35 percent and a significant strike defense at 61 percent. He also averages 0.60 submissions per 15 minutes of fight time.
Rhys McKee (10-3-1)
McKee is also coming into this fight with a similar scenario to his opponent. He had recently suffered a first-round TKO loss to Khamzat Chimaev back in July, and that loss broke his three-fight win streak, which was building since December of 2018.
His fighting resume shows that he has seven wins by knockout and three by submission. Out of those victories, he has seven first-round finishes with a combined effort of knockouts and submissions.
As mentioned above, “Skeletor” recently suffered that TKO loss. That bout was also his debut in the UFC, so there aren’t many stats to reference here.
However, in looking at that fight, it does show a lot of concern. McKee’s last fight lasted three minutes, and he was unable to put up a single strike against absorbing 40. One has to hope that he will be ready for his next bout.

Both of these fighters are wanting to bounce back after disappointing first-round losses. However, they both suffered somewhat similar ways of bowing out, so they should be motivated to turn this around rather quickly.
Morono has a lot of quality UFC experience over McKee that should come in handy as the fight progresses. Not sure you will see both of these guys coming out swinging since they both had those tough losses early.
Overall, Morono appears to be a solid choice. Look for him to utilize an all-around performance to come away with a decision.
