Las Vegas Sands Corp founder Sheldon Adelson has died aged 87. It was reported last week that he was taking a leave of absence from his work to resume treatment for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, but passed away this week from complications related to that treatment.
Via his Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling he lobbied congress to restore the Wire Act that would make gambling over a phone line (which in this context online poker is an example of). He was unsuccessful and his critics felt that this attempt to ban online poker was simply a rouze to get poker players in his bricks and mortar venues instead.
Adelson also divided opinion politically being one of the Republican parties biggest donors as well as donating money to the Trump campaign.
