Apologies about the last failed POTD folks. The last shot of the game killed our bet, literally. There were 3 options, opponent to not score, opponent to score 2 points or opponent to score 3 points with the final shot of the match. If they had scored 0 points we would win, 2 points would have returned our stake but with a mere 2 seconds remaining, the opponent drained a 3-point shot which reduced our 7 point winning margin to 4 meaning we failed to cover. I actually find those close losses hurt the most because youre emotionally invested in the match with thoughts about what to do with your winnings!! ?? anyway, we move on!!
Today’s POTD is for League D – Group 2 leaders Gibraltar to beat San Marino away from home.
It is to be noted that whilst this POTD is published on Friday November 13, the event will begin on Saturday November 14. I am posting it today to give people who follow it an opportunity to get the best price possible before it drops.
Gibraltar will be aiming to keep their 100% record in Group 2 intact when they take on San Marino in Serravalle on Saturday.
They have been playing above expectations in the Nations League this season, and a win in this match will see them secure promotion to League C. The visitors should be eager to get their job done in Group D, and I’m positive that they will go all guns blazing at their opponents troops to achieve that historic victory.
San Marino did well to hold Liechtenstein to a goalless draw in their last group game, but they extended their dreadful winless run in all competitions. They have little to play for in this clash, and given the importance of the match for the Group 2 leaders, an away win should be expected.
When the two teams met in Gibraltar in early September, the home side defeated San Marino thanks to a single goal on the stroke of half-time.
Upon reviewing that encounter, Gibraltar managed to dominate possession and create more scoring opportunities than their opponent. Registering 66% of possession and having 11 goal attempts compared to San Marino’s 5 goal attempts. I believe this will be the key to success for this pick.
IF Gibraltar can breakdown their stubborn weaker opponent and gain that vital goal then I have no doubts that they can defend well and keep their 100% group win record in part due to their goalshy opponents who have only scored 1 goal in their last 21 matches overall.
Both teams are rather poor, however I love these types of matches because they’re often more competitive and have more passion and national pride than when these little nations verse the big guys.
Best of luck to all!! ??
