NCAA College Football Betting Preview: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Michigan State Spartans- Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020

The Hoosiers will look to keep their Cinderella season going as they travel to East Lansing. Indiana is 3-0 after beating ranked teams in Penn State and Michigan at home and a road victory over Rutgers.

The Spartans are 1-2, but they did get a win over in-state rival Michigan 27-24. Michigan State came back down to Earth with a thud last week as they lost to Iowa 49-7.

Indiana Betting Preview

Indiana is feeling pretty good about themselves at 3-0 and ranked No. 10 in the nation. They face No. 3 Ohio State next week, but they cannot overlook the Spartans. Michigan appears to have underestimated Michigan State and walked away with a loss.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. leads an offense that struggles to get yardage, managing only 339 yards per game, but somehow still capable of putting points on the board (37 per game). Penix Jr. is 66-of-112 on the season for 750 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception. Receiver Whop Philyor has been Penix’s goto receiver with 21 catches for 252 yards and a touchdown.

The run game for the Hoosiers has struggled to get going. They are averaging only 89 yards per game on the ground. Indiana is led by Stevie Scott III, who has carried the ball 65 times for 235 yards and four touchdowns.

Indiana’s defense has done a terrific job of keeping them in games. Teams are only averaging 25.7 points against them, and that includes an overtime game against Penn State. The Hoosiers have been consistently effective against the pass, limiting opponents to 236 yards per game in the air.

Michigan State Betting Preview

Beating Michigan in Ann Arbor has taken the heat off the team and coaching staff despite not performing well in either of their other games. They lost the opener to Rutgers before being trounced by Iowa last week.

Quarterback Rocky Lombardi has struggled with interceptions, throwing five on the young season. He has completed 65-of-112 passes for 869 yards and six touchdowns. Jalen Nailor has been his go-to receiver with 12 catches for 271 yards and a touchdown.

The Spartans, just like the Hoosiers, have struggled to get anything going on the ground. They are averaging only 78 yards per game on the ground. Jordan Simmons leads the team in rushing with 132 yards on 37 carries.

Michigan State’s defensive yardage does not look bad, but they have given up 37 points per game to their opponents. They are only allowing 377 yards per game, but teams have thrashed them on the ground for over 160 yards a game. Look for Indiana’s run game to get going in this one.

This is the ultimate trap game for Indiana, with Ohio State next up on the schedule. Luckily for the Hoosiers, I do not think they have had enough success in the past to overlook anyone. While this Michigan State team looked awful last week, they have the talent to steal this one if Indiana is not on their game.

Look for Indiana to run it early and open up the passing game for Penix Jr. I think Indiana pulls away in the second half and covers the number.
