NCAA College Basketball Betting Preview: #5 Kansas Jayhawks vs. #8 Creighton Blue Jays – Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020

The Creighton Bluejays will take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Tuesday afternoon for a matchup between two of the Top 10 teams in the nation. The game tips off at 5 pm ET with Kansas as a 3.5 point favorite.

The Jayhawks come into the game with a 4-1 record and their only loss coming to No. 1 Gonzaga. Creighton is a perfect 3-0 on the season.

Creighton Bluejays Betting Preview: Blue Birds Circling a Blue Blood

The Creighton Blue Jays came into the season with sky-high expectations boasting an All-American candidate at the point guard position in Marcus Zegarowski. The junior guard is averaging 12 points, seven assists, and three rebounds thus far on the season.

While Zegarowski’s numbers are a bit down from last season, he is once again leading a balanced Bluejays’ attack as Creighton boasts six players averaging double-digit points per game. The Bluejays have yet to be tested this season, having played zero teams ranked inside the Kenpom Top 150, so this will be a nice early season barometer of where Creighton actually sits.

Creighton currently ranks sixth in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency and third in turnover percentage at just 10.8%.

Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview: New Stars Doing the Same Old Stuff

Kansas entered the 2020-21 season with some unfamiliar uncertainties. The Jayhawks are traditionally a program with tremendous continuity. This season, there were some question marks regarding leadership after losing point guard Devon Dotson and dominating big man Udoka Azubuike.

This season, sophomore wing Jalen Wilson has answered the call, averaging 15 points and nearly nine rebounds per game. Ochai Agbaji has also stepped up his game after a breakout sophomore season. Agbaji is shooting 42% from behind the three-point line this season while leading the Jayhawks in scoring at 16.2 points per game.

One of the biggest question marks surrounding Kansas this season is the play of their center. David McCormack is certainly serviceable, but he has yet to take the steps towards filling the tremendous void left by “Big Doke.” Azubuike was perhaps the most significant game influencer in terms of both size and play in 2019-20.

The matchup of Zegarowski and all-world defender Marcus Garrett is a great early season showdown. Thus far, Creighton’s lack of quality opponents is concerning, especially when you consider that Kansas has already taken on Gonzaga and Kentucky this season.

Neither team boasts tremendous frontcourt talent, but the combination of Christian Bishop and freshman Ryan Kalkbrenner has been effective thus far this season for Creighton.

McCormack has the pedigree to be a great player for Kansas, but he is not the rim protector that people have come to expect from a Kansas big man.

Going back to 2010-11, Kansas is 9-2 against top ten teams ranked at home. Expect Garrett to give Zegarowski fits and Kansas to get the win and cover the points at home.
