Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes Betting Preview and Free Pick – Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020

The $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes will run as Race 5 on the Dec. 12 card at Fair Grounds. The event for 2-year-old fillies will cover six furlongs and include names like Big Time, Rue Lala, Taylor Avenue, and Mrs. Judy among the field of nine.

Here is a look at the top runners set for the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes.

Betting Preview: Big Time, Rue Lala

The morning-line favorite coming in at 7/2 is Valene Farms’ Big Time. The Astrology filly is trained by Dallas Stewart. She has a career record of 1-0-0 from one start and earnings of $32,704.

That one victory came in a June 18 maiden special weight race at Churchill Downs, where she registered an 83 Speed Figure. Big Time will break from Post 5 under jockey Brian Joseph Hernandez, Jr.

She will be going up against the 4/1 Rue Lala, owned by Corrine Heiligbrodt, William Heiligbrodt, and Spendthrift Farm. The Star Guitar filly is trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen. She is 1-1-0 from two career starts with earnings of $23,500.

The runner-up effort came last time out in the Sept. 19 Louisiana Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes (Black Type) at Louisiana Downs. Her victory was a Sept. 5 maiden special weight race at the track, where she registered an 80 Speed Figure.

Rue Lala will break from Post 1 under rider Ricardo Santana, Jr.

Betting Preview: Taylor Avenue, Mrs. Judy

Another runner among the field is the 9/2 Taylor Avenue, owned by Commonwealth New Era Racing. The Mshawish filly is trained by W. Bret Calhoun. She has a career record of 1-0-1 from two starts and earnings of $21,850.

The filly took third last time out in a Nov. 12 allowance race at Indiana Grand Race Course, which followed her Sept. 28 maiden special weight victory at the track. Taylor Avenue will break from Post 2 under rider Adam Beschizza.

The 5/1 Mrs. Judy will also be in the field. Owned by Set-Hut, the Commissioner filly is trained by Jeff Delhomme. She has one win from one career start and earnings of $28,200.

The filly scored a Nov. 26 maiden special weight race at Fair Grounds. Mrs. Judy will break from Post 6 under jockey Shaun Bridgmohan.

The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include:

  • Spirited Beauty (Post 3, 6/1)
  • Platinum Sky (Post 4, 12/1)
  • Big Time (Post 5, 7/2)
  • Twin Sisters (Post 7, 12/1)
  • Tectate Time (Post 8, 8/1)
  • Strummer (Post 9, 12/1)

Free Betting Pick

The field for the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes is full of inexperienced 2-year-old fillies, so it is hard to know who will cross the line first. The 4/1 Rue Lala looks like a good choice, especially since she is trained by a Hall of Famer in Asmussen.

She is coming off a runner-up effort in a stakes race last time out, and she will have to get around Big Time to make it her second career win.
